Serving

servingMany people at St Barnabas volunteer with the church in many different teams. Getting involved in one of the ministry areas of the church is a great way to serve and also get to know other members of the church.

 

Below is a list of some of the areas of ministry. Please check appropriate box(es) if you would like to volunteer with any of theses roles and submit the form. 

 

 

SUNDAY-BASED MINISTRY

9.00am service

 

Intercession.To lead four minutes of intercessory prayers as part of the service once every six weeks. Guidance given.
   
Reading.To read the Bible passage for the service once every six weeks.
   

 

Hosting and welcome. Opening the church, setting up for Communion, welcoming and      stewarding on a monthly basis.
   
Serving Communion. Once every 2 to 3 months.
   

 

Preparing & serving coffee. Preparing coffee at 8.45 am and serving it after the service, once every month.
   

10.30am service

 
Hosting and welcome. Welcoming, stewarding as part of a hosting team on Sundays monthly.
   
Hosting at Welcome desk. Selling books & providing information about the church and events . Guidlines provided. Every six weeks.
   
Reading. To read the Bible passage for the service every six weeks.
   

Serving Communion. Once every 2 to 3 months.

   
 
Operating projector for services. Operate computer-controlled projection on Sundays monthly.
   
Operating sound desk. Set-up and operation of sound desk on Sundays every six weeks.
   
Worship team. Singing or playing in the worship bands.
   
 
Leading children’s group. Lead one of the children’s groups on Sundays weekly during term-time, with some Sundays off (CRB check will be required).
   
 
Help with children’s group. Assisting one of the group leaders on Sundays fortnightly. Skills: Desire to work with children (CRB check will be required).
   

 

Help with children’s group occasionally. Assisting during holiday periods or to cover for absent team members on Sundays occasionally (CRB check will be required).
  

6.30pm Engage service

 

Hosting and welcome. Welcoming, stewarding and serving coffee as part of a hosting team on Sundays monthly.

FAITH SHARING 

 

Serving at Alpha course. To help set up, to prepare and serve food for the nine-week Alpha course.
   

Leading Alpha small group. Leading an Alpha small group weekly for nine weeks.
   
Prayer walking. Occasional prayer walking around the parish.
   

 

Promoting church events. Promoting church events in the community with leaflet delivery.
 
OUTREACH

Helping Sticky Fingers. Helping Thursday morning toddler group weekly/fortnightly.
   

 

Helping Earls Court Community Project. Helping locally-based coffee-bar project and social outreach organisation weekly or occasionally.

 

 

 

Helping Night Shelter. Serving meals for homeless during Night Shelter (Jan-March). Talking to guests, etc one or more evenings during the season (Thursdays).

 

 

 

Joining Global Action Team. Promoting global and locally-based mission. A two-hour meeting four times a year, plus contact with mission partners.
   

 

Cooking for student ministry. Preparing food for students and new graduates on Tuesday evenings in the church.
   

 

 

Get involved with Open Church. Opening the church to the public during the week: welcoming people stopping by at differnt times of the day. Takes place in teams of two or more for one or two hour slots. Guidlines provided.
   

 

Helping Love from Barnabas. Preparing and serving meals for older people. Takes place once a month (Saturdays).
   
DISCIPLESHIP
Joining a cluster. Joining a cluster this term: meeting weekly for food and fellowship.
   

 

Intercession. Pray regularly for the life of the church and specific issues and receive prayer requests by e-mail as part of the prayer chain for emergencies.
   
OTHER

 

Help with flower displays for Sundays. Preparing a display of flowers for the front of church on Friday or Saturday; about twice a term.
   

 

Join Christmas Carols choir. Rehearse carols for the Christmas Carol Service: four rehearsals – Monday nights from mid-November.
