Margaret’s work in evangelism and discipleship in poor areas of Lima’s shanty towns has led to church planting, usually starting with children’s clubs and then reaching the parents through Bible study groups. The next step is to train leaders for each new group.
At the moment there are four well-established churches with their own pastors and seven groups in formation, each with a children’s club and a cell group of adults. Every year Margaret organises camps and retreats, and these have helped greatly in the growth and development of the churches.
The people are very poor, and there is high unemployment, so she has encouraged the creation of jobs through a system of loans to enable the start up of small businesses, and also helps people to find markets for the craft items they produce. |
